Leadership Development Case Study:
Bypass Mobile
In our case study, learn how BLUECASE leadership development tools helped Bypass Mobile solve key alignment and execution challenges and get acquired.
“We needed to get our product and engineering team on the same page as our business and sales team. BLUECASE helped us fix it, and by fixing it we were able to get acquired [by Fiserv, a global fintech and payments company].”
Brandon Lloyd, Founder & CEO
The Problem:
Bypass Mobile was founded as a mobile payments technology company before pivoting into point of sale. Following the pivot, they found they had two distinct cultures in the company: an engineering culture and a business culture.
Unfortunately, those cultures didn’t always see eye to eye. When the technology experienced downtime, team members on the business side were in direct contact with customers and felt their pain very directly—while the engineering team was more insulated from this experience. This led to frustration and misalignment between the two departments and suboptimal cross-functional communication and execution.
“I felt like I had tried everything I knew how to do to bring this culture together, and a friend of mine introduced me to BLUECASE,” said Brandon Lloyd, Founder & CEO.

OUR SOLUTIONS:
The BLUECASE team was called in to resolve these alignment and communication challenges and help the entire organization operate as a cohesive unit with seamless cross-functional communication.
In partnering with Bypass, we provided several key solutions, including strategic planning, CEO and group coaching, and leadership development through our ILF program.
The goal of our solutions was to help disparate departments better work together and understand each other, and to develop a strong, caring leadership team that the rest of the company would trust and feel comfortable with.
The Results:
Through their work with BLUECASE, Bypass Mobile eliminated silos and became one team. We enacted and reinforced this change daily with a set of tools, practices, and a shared language that improved cross-functional communication and increased employee engagement. The CEO and executive team learned how to lead more effectively so the company could move with greater velocity.
Bypass Mobile also made great strides throughout the course of our leadership development program, becoming the perfect case study for how the internal perception of the CEO is more than a personal issue—it’s a business issue. As Lloyd described it,
“Inside of the workplace I had become viewed by a lot of employees as almost robotic, and what BLUECASE encouraged me to do was be myself and be vulnerable. I didn’t connect that with business performance, but once I did I certainly related to our employee base much better.”
Employees took notice as their CEO changed, and he became a model for the new culture.
Our group coaching, meanwhile, helped the engineering and business teams come together through shared language and a shared understanding of the customer experience. In the end, we helped Bypass resolve a longstanding fundamental issue and ultimately sell their technology to a major fintech firm.
